Rangers' signing of Ryan Kent was not a push of the panic button following their derby day defeat to Celtic, claims Mark Allen.

The Ibrox director of football watched the players succumb to a 2-0 loss to Celts last Sunday at Ibrox.

The next day Gers splashed out £7million on the wantaway Liverpool winger, making him their second highest transfer fee ever behind Tore André Flo.

Mark Allen says Rangers' Ryan Kent signing is statement of intent as he makes financial claim

But Allen is adamant the defeat played no part in Kent's signing - as the former Gers loanee was their top signing priority all summer.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Allen said: "We had a board meeting the prior Saturday before which myself and Steven attended.

"We went through the whole squad then in terms of what our targets were in the summer and where we'd got to with those targets, which was quite successful.

"The only one who we hadn't got was Ryan, but it certainly wasn't a reaction to the game."
