Ex-Celtic and Scotland star Davie Provan insists Steve Clarke's men have to beat Russia to stand any chance of qualifying for Euro 2020 via Group I.

Scotland are teetering in fourth after defeats to Kazakhstan and Belgium.

Their Russian counterparts are three points ahead in second place but Provan believes a win could put the Scots in a decent position to come through their initial rough patch and get back in with a shout.

Kenny Miller reckons Scotland star Oli McBurnie in for prickly welcome during Russia clash

He told Sky Sports: "It has to be a must-win given that we're playing catch up with Russia.

"That second place in the group is probably going to be between Scotland and Russia.

"We still have to go to Moscow, so it's definitely a must-win tonight."

Provan also highlighted Russia's danger man ahead of the big game at Hampden.

He said: "The big boy [Artem] Dzyuba has a physical presence and a great goal scoring record for Russia.

"Whoever plays for Scotland tonight is coming into an environment where the ball is coming into the box regularly and the game is pretty direct.

"I don't think it's going to be a surprise to our boys but, having said that, he's going to be a real handful."
