Mexico international Isaac Brizuela has revealed Celtic tried to sign him - only for his former club to reject an approach.

Brizuela, 29, claimed the Hoops hoped to tempt him to Parkhead only for his then club Deportivo Toluca to knock back interest as Celts were not willing to pay the asking price.

The winger has 14 caps for his country and eventually went on to leave Toluca in 2015 for around £5million.

But it appears he would have been open to a Glasgow switch - and would not rule it out again.

Speaking to Mexican publication Medio Tiempo, Brizuela said: "I heard the rumours but I didn't want to think about them too much and distract myself.

“In the end, I don't know if they [Celtic] spoke to [Toluca] director, but when I was in Toluca they approached me.

"The club didn't let me go because Celtic didn't want to pay their asking price.

"Being here in Chivas I don't know if anyone has come over but I won't give up hope.

"I know that I have a certain age, but I won't give up hope that such a moment will come."
