Dedryck Boyata has vehemently denied going on strike to force a move away from Celtic last year.

Boyata, 28, was accused of refusing to play as he tried to jump ship amid interest from then-English Premier League side Fulham.

The defender eventually did leave Parkhead on a free to join German club Hertha Berlin.

But he still takes exception to the criticism that he feels is unfounded.

Hertha Berlin confirm Celtic centre half Dedryck Boyata will join them this summer

Speaking to German publication SportBild, the Belgian said: "It's not true, I was accused of strikes last summer so I could move.

"I also played through the season, was in the Scottish team of the year and played my part in the title.

"The truth is, I've won everything at Celtic in four years but it was time to start something new.

"The Bundesliga is a good challenge for me."

Boyata is in line to finally make his debut for Hertha Berlin this weekend - a full six months after he penned a deal.
