CHRIS ERSKINE reckons Livingston can take plenty of positives from their performance at Ibrox despite the result going against them as they surrendered a shock lead against Rangers.

Gary Holt’s side found themselves ahead just after the break when Steven Lawless converted from the spot following a rash challenge from Scott Arfield on Lyndon Dykes.

But that was as good as it got the visitors as Rangers scored through James Tavernier, Alfredo Morelos and Brandon Barker to clinch a crucial three points in the title race.

Erskine hit the bar with a header as Livingston pressed for an equaliser and was proud of the way Holt’s side stood up to the challenge at Ibrox.

He said: "I thought I was unlucky because I probably caught it too well. An inch lower and it probably goes in.

“I thought we did well. When you come to a place like this you are expecting to have to concede possession and defend for long periods of the game.

“I thought we did well and held them for a long time. We also had a few good chances as well.

“So I think over the piece we are a wee bit disappointed. I think everyone in the dressing room is quite happy with our performance.

"Even in the first half we had a few half chances, but we more than held our own in the second half until the sending off, which changed it.

“We are all pretty happy with our performances, although we didn't get anything out of the game.

"We've had a good start to the season and we've picked up a few points already. But the big games for us are the teams around about us.

“They are the ones we want to be winning. We'll be looking to kick on."

Livingston caused Rangers a number of problems in a solid showing but the red card that Dykes received with 20 minutes remaining was a significant blow to their chances of a result.

Boss Holt insisted his striker didn’t deserve to pick up a second yellow and Erskine was impressed with the former Queen of the South forward.

He said: "I thought he was unlucky [with the sending off]. I thought he was brilliant. He gave the two Rangers central defenders a real hard time throughout the game and he got the better of them for the whole time he was on the pitch. I don't think it was a sending off and I thought he was hard done by.

"He's been brilliant. He's stepping up to the Premier League, but he's already scored a few goals and his work rate is brilliant.

“He brings a different dimension to us as well. He's a big handful who gave their two big centre halves a right good run for their money."
