MICHAEL MOLS is delighted Rangers were able to hold onto Alfredo Morelos this summer - because it would have been impossible to find a striking replacement this term.

The Colombian attracted interest from a host of clubs across the continent after netting 30 times for Steven Gerrard’s side last term.

But Gerrard got his wish as Rangers retained the services of his key forward.

Morelos is set to lead the line against Feyenoord on Thursday and Dutch hero Mols has been impressed with his form once again.

He said: “You saw that it was very hard for Jermain Defoe against the two Celtic defenders in the Old Firm game but when Morelos came on he had a bit more desire and he can be a key player for Rangers.

“Everybody was saying that Rangers would have to sell him for a big amount of money but the manager wanted to keep him and the fans wanted to keep him.

“If they had sold him, they would have got money for him, but once you have the money you need to find a player who can score goals like him.

“That is hard because everyone is looking for that kind of player and Rangers have one.

“It is better to keep him and give him the service so that he can score goals again.

“The mentality has always been his only danger. He has that desire, that desire to win, but sometimes you can easily upset him. If he can get hold of his temper, he is going to be a world class player and a very important player for Rangers.

“He has improved that this season, which is good to see. People seemed to forget that he is still young and he is still learning.

“The older you get, the wiser you get and I think he is doing that now.

“If he continues to control that, then he can certainly take that next step in his career.”
