A SUPER Swede called Larsson is aiming to haunt Rangers again this week and Feyenooord ace Sam has warned Steven Gerrard the Dutch cracks are coming to Ibrox to win, writes Mark Walker.

Jaap Stam’s side travel to Glasgow for the opening Europa League fixture on Thursday after both teams came through nervy league wins at the weekend.

After Rangers went a goal down to Livingston before coming back to beat them 3-1, Feyenoord almost threw away a three-goal lead in Rotterdam against local rivals Den Haag by netting two own goals in a second half collapse.

Feyenoord and Swedish international winger Larsson is known as ‘Samba Sam’ after he was likened to a Brazilian and given the tag by his former manager at IFK Gothenburg Mikael Stahre, when he first started to make headlines in Sweden.

While he is no relation of the Celtic icon Henrik, Larsson is still aiming to repeat the feats of his famous namesake. And he’s adamant Jaap Stam’s men will be going full out for three points and won’t just be happy to avoid defeat from their trip to Glasgow.

Larsson said: “There’s no way we are going to Ibrox looking to settle for a point or going there to defend. We are aiming for the win. I think it’s a really open Group and every team will think they have a chance to qualify. For me, all four teams are similar in quality I think.

“And that’s what makes Thursday so important. No team wants to be chasing it after the first game. So I assure you we will go fully for the three points.

“Everyone knows about Rangers and their history, but we have a good European record too. It was only a couple of years ago when we got into the Champions League Group Stages where the quality was extremely high and it was very difficult.

“I think if we are honest and maybe Rangers too, the Europa League is more of our level. I think both us and Rangers will be in competition to qualify. I’ve never played in Scotland before so that will be a first for me.

“I believe Ibrox is very similar to De Kuip because there are great atmospheres in both grounds when they are full. It’s certainly what we want because that will lift us. I can only speak for De Kuip and the European atmospheres at games here are amazing. I would imagine it’s the same in Glasgow.

“Steven Gerrard was a great player with a fantastic career obviously. And now he’s a manager I expect him to be just as successful.”
