Alan Hutton believes Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack deserves a new deal at Ibrox - because he's made himself indispensable in Steven Gerrard's starting XI.

Jack has been impressive this season and already received rave reviews from his manager who recently claimed he is one of the first names picked these days.

The ex-Aberdeen midfielder is already in discussions over a new contract at Gers and Hutton - who played at Ibrox for six years between 2002 and 2008 - insists he's earned it.

Ryan Jack speaks out on the Scotland injury row ... as he closes in on new Rangers deal

He told Football Insider: "Obviously due to his performances, there is now talk of a new contract which he thoroughly deserves.

"He’s a massive part of the team and he has taken to it really well, as I’ve said with the new contract and stuff, he’ll believe he is one of the main players now and he’s gone from strength to strength.

"He’s one of the first names on the teamsheet and his aim now is to kick-on and be the same for Scotland by being one of their main players.

"So hopefully he signs a new deal and can hopefully help Rangers stop Celtic."
