SHEYI OJO insists he stands by his belief that Rangers are the best team in Scotland this term as he looks to help Steven Gerrard’s side bring success back to Ibrox.

The winger sparked debate, and came in for criticism in some quarters, earlier in the campaign when he stated that the Light Blues were the top outfit in the country.

Rangers moved to within one point of Celtic in the Premiership title race as they beat Aberdeen 5-0 on Saturday to record a fifth successive win in all competitions since their Old Firm defeat earlier this month.

And Ojo was delighted with the sterling showing from Gerrard’s side as they capitalised on Celtic’s slip-up away to Hibernian earlier in the day.

He said: “I stand by what I said and I think Rangers are in a good run of form. We are doing really well so far this season and we are looking hungry.

“Any team that looks hungry and is getting wins, it can only be positive. Of course, we have to give Celtic respect but, from my own opinion, I believe we can have a really successful season.

“We weren’t really thinking about Celtic and the Hibs game, we just focused on ourselves and got the job done. We saw the result but as long as we keep focusing on ourselves then everything will take care of itself.

“We don’t really worry about the other teams around us, we have just got to keep doing what we are doing and keep getting the results and hopefully we can have a successful season.

“We won 5-0 on Saturday but, if we are being really harsh, we could have scored more and we feel that in every game we could always score more and do more.

“We have just got to keep working hard. The staff have been amazing with all of us in the training and we are a really strong bunch of lads.

“We really enjoy playing, especially at home with the fans and the support we are getting. Everything is going well and we just have to take it a step at a time.”

Rangers produced arguably their most complete Premiership performance of the campaign to ease to victory over the Dons as James Tavernier netted twice from the spot and Greg Stewart, Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe also found the target.

It has been a pleasing month overall for Gerrard as his side have impressed in the Europa League and moved through to the Betfred Cup semi-finals and this comfortable Ibrox win success meant a lot to on-loan Liverpool winger Ojo as the momentum was maintained.

He said: “It was a massive win. It’s important we start fast against teams like this.

“To go in at half-time 2-0 up was a great position to be in. We went back out and added another three goals and could have scored more.

“We are in really good form as a team and unbeaten since the Old Firm game. In each game, we have the confidence we can get the three points. And to get a goal difference at home is really important.

“It puts a marker down to all the other teams in the league that we really mean business so we just have to keep going.

“Speaking on behalf of the team I know that everyone is really hungry for success. Against Livingston in midweek we had to dig deep and get ourselves into the semi-finals of the Betfred Cup.

“We are doing really well in the league and are looking forward to the Europa League and the game against Young Boys this week.

“I think we have a lot to be positive about so we just have to keep it going and take it a game at a time.”
