Ex-Rangers striker Steven Thompson believes Alfredo Morelos is a better striker than Odsonne Edouard - despite Michael Stewart fiercely thinking otherwise.

It is a tough question but, putting aside club allegiances, who would you select?

It's been a raging debate since the two arrived on Scottish shores.

Ex-Rangers star Charlie Adam reckons Alfredo Morelos is better than Celtic's Odsonne Edouard

If you look at purely stats then Alfredo Morelos has bagged 55 goals in all competitions for the Gers in the last two seasons and the start of this season.

In the same time span, Edouard has scored 38 goals in all tournaments.

Although, unlike Morelos, Edouard boasts a fairly impressive disciplinary record with only seven yellow cards and no reds during his time in Glasgow.

Compared to the Rangers hothead who has 30 yellows and six reds in the same amount of time.

Thompson and Michael Stewart debated the credentials of both players on BBC Sportsound.

Charlie Nicholas says Celtic star Odsonne Edouard irritates him - but he's still cut above Alfredo Morelos

And, when asked which star they'd pick to lead the line in their own hypothetical lineup, naturally the pundits had different answers.

Stewart said: "It's a tough question. When you look at what Rangers are doing with Morelos and Jermain Defoe, there's a rotation of the players.

"And I think that if you were looking at Odsonne Edouard and Alfredo Morelos and having to pick one, I think it would probably depend on what game.

"Morelos is a bit more unorthodox, he's all action."

Stewart went on to claim that Edouard is a big game player and that Morelos hasn't proved himself against Celtic.

Thompson fired back, though, saying: "I get what he's saying, he is a big game player.

"I've to say a name, have I?

"I'll go Morelos, this season. I wouldn't have picked him last season."

Both strikers have got off to a flier this season with the Colombian Morelos amassing an impressive 13 goals in 17 appearances.

Meanwhile Edouard has netted eight times in 15 appearances including a clinical strike to give Celtic the lead in the first Old Firm of the season.
