GERARDO SEOANE reckons it will be a three-way battle for second spot in Group G as Young Boys look to inflict a first European defeat of the season on Rangers.

The Swiss head into their clash with Steven Gerrard’s side in need of a victory to kick-start their campaign after losing to Porto on matchday one.

Rangers are already three points ahead of Young Boys and Feyenoord after a superb win over the Dutch side at Ibrox thanks to Sheyi Ojo’s first half strike.

Porto are expected to top the section and reach the knock-out rounds and Bern boss Seoane is well aware of the importance of the Light Blues showdown this evening.

He said: “I realise that Rangers play very well on the counter attack. Young Boys will have to keep the ball well and not give the Rangers strikers the opportunity to counter attack as fast as they can. Of course we have other plans of how we will play but I’m not going to reveal everything.

“I was impressed in the Feyenoord game by both teams, Rangers and Feyenoord. I saw high intensity, a lot of tackling but it will be different because Rangers are playing away.

“I want Rangers to feel this. We have to play our game. We would like Rangers not to be able to play their game. This will be important.

“It’s a very good group. They are playing in a group in which every team would like to belong to the Champions League. We have seen that Porto have been very strong in last few years. Porto are the ones to be on top of the table at the end, but that’s not that important. What’s important is [the game tonight].”

Young Boys head into the second Group G fixture on the back of a 3-2 victory over Sion at the weekend that leaves them just three points off the pace in the Swiss Super League.

Boss Seoane has not had his troubles to seek on the injury front in recent weeks but he could have Roger Assalé, Noumi Ngamaleu and Guillaume Hoarau back in action tonight.

He said: “That had not much influence on practice. We have had so many games in the last few weeks we have not had that many practices.

“It’s a question of having good exchanges with medical staff and we have to take care of what happens during the game. There are some players who have had to play a lot in the last couple of weeks so I am trying to manage that as well as possible.”
