FREDERIK SORENSEN got an early insight into Rangers as he watched Danish compatriots Brian Laudrup and Peter Lovenkrands become heroes at Ibrox.

But it will be his most recent observations of the Light Blues that will be more useful when he takes to the field against Steven Gerrard’s side.

The defender has an impressive track record in the game after starting his career at Juventus and he has also turned out for Bologna and Hellas Verona in Italy.

He is currently on loan at Young Boys from German outfit Koln and will be a key man for the Swiss side as they look to get their first points on the board in Group G.

Rangers qualified for the section by progressing through four rounds against St Joseph’s, Progres Niederkorn, Midtjylland and Legia Warsaw.

And it was that win in Denmark that caught Sorensen’s eye as the Gers won 4-2 in Denmark on a night when Gerrard’s side produced one of their finest performances of the campaign to date.

The victory was followed up by a 3-1 home success and group stage football was secured for the second consecutive term as Legia were beaten over two nerve-shredding ties.

Rangers have the edge on their hosts going into matchday two after starting the section with a 1-0 success against Feyenoord on the same night that Young Boys lost to Porto. And stopper Sorensen is expecting a tough 90 minutes inside the Stade de Suisse.

Sorensen said: “When I was young I was watching a lot of Scottish football, a lot of Premiership.

“I also watched the Old Firm game several times. I watched Brian Laudrup but also Peter Lovenkrands who is coach of their second team.

“It is going to be a great game and we are looking forward to it. No, I have never played a Scottish team before. We know Gerrard of course.

“Rangers maybe have his mentality on the pitch. They have become very aggressive. We are looking forward to playing against a Scottish team. It will be good.

“I saw the game against Midtjylland, in the qualifier at home for Midtjylland. I have friends who play for Midtjylland. I talked with them.

“They said Rangers had a good mentality, a classic British team who come with a mentality and with a lot of physicality. We know we have play like that.”
