Steven Gerrard heaped praise on "faultless" George Edmundson as the stopper made his long-awaited league debut for Rangers yesterday.

The former Oldham defender has had to wait for his opportunity due to on-form competition in his position from the likes of Nikola Katic and Filip Helander.

Making just his sixth appearance for Gers in their 5-0 mauling of Hamilton at Ibrox, Edmundson didn't put a foot wrong and looked comfortable and composed both in possession and out of it.

His manager didn't allow the moment to pass without hailing the £650,000 signing for refusing to spend his time out of the eleven moping - and instead choosing to work hard to try and make himself indispensable.

Speaking to Rangers TV after yesterday's game, Gerrard said: "[Edmundson] was faultless.

Filip Helander admits he's been shocked at how big a club Rangers really are since he joined

"Really strong, he's been out a little while looking in.

"I wanted him to get used to how we play and have a look at our opposition.

"He's looked in, been learning and working ever so hard for his opportunity.

"That came today and he took it, I thought he was faultless. Outstanding."
