Andy Murray will play in next year's Australian Open singles tournament.

The heroic Scotsman's career looked all but over when a hip injury threatened to force him into retirement last year.

However he gamely battled back to join Serena Williams in doubles action at Wimbledon earlier this year.

He also played at the China Open and is currently embarked on a mission to do well in the Shanghai Masters.

It has now been confirmed that he'll play in Australia - the same Grand Slam tournament where he's a five-time finalist.

Since his retirement scare Murray continues his comeback and is currently ranked number 289 in the world.
