Manager and player can often be a difficult relationship. Especially when a boss is sacked - like Jose was - if his players don't perform on the pitch.
But McTominay, 22, has revealed he still keeps in contact with Mourinho who will chat with him after some games to provide advice or just to lend an ear.
"Jose is very special to me," McTominay told Sky Sports.
"He still keeps in contact with me now and keeps in touch after some games.

"He'll always have a special place in mine and my family's heart because he was the one who brought you in, trusted you, had belief in you.
"I owe a tremendous amount of credit to him because if it wasn't for him I might not be sitting in this seat."
