Scotland star Scott McTominay has opened up on his special relationship with the Special One Jose Mourinho during the Portuguese manager's time at Manchester United.

McTominay debuted under Mourinho back in 2017 as a youngster against Arsenal at the Emirates.

And the midfielder hasn't forgotten the influence Mourinho had on his career.

Manager and player can often be a difficult relationship. Especially when a boss is sacked - like Jose was - if his players don't perform on the pitch.

But McTominay, 22, has revealed he still keeps in contact with Mourinho who will chat with him after some games to provide advice or just to lend an ear.

"Jose is very special to me," McTominay told Sky Sports.

"He still keeps in contact with me now and keeps in touch after some games.

"He'll always have a special place in mine and my family's heart because he was the one who brought you in, trusted you, had belief in you.

"I owe a tremendous amount of credit to him because if it wasn't for him I might not be sitting in this seat."
