Craig Beattie reckons Lawrence Shankland would be better suited to Celtic's set-up than Rangers' - and the striker would take to the Hoops like a duck to water.

Shankland has continued his ruthless form in front of goal from the past two seasons where he scored a barrel load for Ayr United.

Dundee United are now reaping the rewards from their top man but Beattie, who starred for Celts, believes Shankland would be a good fit at Parkhead.

The new Scotland cap has previously been linked with a move to Rangers and has also been scouted by Celtic.

But Beattie believes Shankland - who scored his first international goal against San Marino earlier this month - would do a job for Neil Lennon's men with the creativity they'd be able to provide.

"I think he's good enough for Celtic and he suits Celtic's style more than Rangers'," Beattie told Si Ferry's Keeping the Ball on the Ground podcast.

"The way Morelos plays he creates a lot of chances and makes a lot of his goals himself.

"Whereas Celtic are a bit more creative in the final third with their wide players and Christie.

"I think he'd be more suited to Celtic and he could quite easily go into Celtic and do a job there."

Robbie Neilson's Terrors would no doubt look for a wad of cash for their talisman, given how well he's started the Championship campaign.

A terrific 15 goals in 13 games is no mean feat.

The one thing Beattie would be hesitant about is whether or not either Old Firm outfit would be willing to part with the money.

"The problem would be, if it's a January move, that Dundee United are going to want silly money for him," Beattie added.

"Are Rangers or Celtic going to pay ridiculous money to a Championship team in Scotland?"
