Scott Allan knew his time was up at Celtic when Brendan Rodgers tried playing him just in front of the back four at Parkhead.

Allan, 27, earned a reputation as a technical footballer during his first spell at Hibs.

It also won him his move to the Hoops where he struggled to make an impact.

The midfielder, now back in Leith after an ill-fated spell in Glasgow, admits he was told by his then-manager how he was wanted at Parkhead and was part of the Northern Irishman's plans.

But he couldn't get over the fact he felt he was being played out of position and therefore not able to contribute as much as he'd like.

Speaking to PLZ Soccer, Allan said: "From early on in pre-season I had a good impact on Brendan because he took me into his office many times.

"He said 'I want you to stay here, you're part of the plans'.

"After one pre-season game he wanted me to play in front of the back four and I knew myself that wasn't my best position.

"[I like to play] in a midfield three either as the number eight or behind the striker."
