And the 23-year-old is pleased to have a positive working relationship with his Light Blues boss.

Katic said: “I am really happy to sign a new contract with this massive club and it is a very proud day for me and my family.

“It shows that I am in a good position and that I am doing really good. I hope there are many more years to come in the future.

“I have to work hard every day on and off the pitch to show that I deserve to be here and deserve to play in the first XI and play a big role in the team. It definitely helped me to improve my game

“As the manager has said, we have got 30 good players here and four really good centre-backs.

“It is on me and when I get a chance to play I have to do my best and prove to the manager that I deserve to play every game.

“It will be difficult to play every game because we have a game every three days and he needs to think about keeping players fresh.

“I just need to show on the training ground that when he chooses me that I will play a big role for him and the team.

“He talks with me and says that he will give me a rest now and play the next game. That is normal. We could play 60 or more games this season so he has to give chances to everyone to play. We have four good centre-backs and everyone needs to be happy.”
