IT was a shame, if no surprise, to see UEFA dishing out yet another fine to Celtic after fans took flares into the stadium prior to the Europa League match against Cluj.

I’m not sure what else the club can really do. If people are determined to get pyrotechnics in, they will, and no matter how much the club have pleaded with supporters not to bring them, it always seems to fall on deaf ears.

It seems that the reputational damage these fans are doing to the club, not to mention the financial penalties their own club are getting hit with, mean nothing to these supporters.

It may well be that the next step will be UEFA closing the standing section of the ground for a match or two, and that would be a real shame. The atmosphere all around the stadium was fantastic on the whole at the Cluj match, and that section played a huge part in that. That’s what you want to see.

You don’t want to see them cross the line though by disregarding the rules, but I doubt it will stop soon.
