It's not often a player scores a brace away from home at Ibrox and ends up on the losing team.

But that's exactly what happened to FC Porto's Pepe back in 2005.

Two set-piece strikes from the Portuguese defender appeared to have salvaged a Champions League point for Porto - only for Greek star Sotirios Kyrgiakos to head a winner for Gers.

And Pepe has not forgotten that September evening.

It's now been 14 years since that night at Ibrox and Pepe is still gunning for revenge.

"I have played against Rangers before and they’re never an easy rival," he told the Daily Record.

"I remember the matches in 2005. I scored two goals in Scotland but still suffered a defeat.

"Now, I have the chance to change that and I’d accept a win, without a goal for myself!

"It will be an intense match and I think we’ll need to show patience.

"But an early goal would help because it would mean Rangers are obliged to attack us."

Pepe knows a win is vital for his side this coming Thursday with Group G finely poised.

A win over Young Boys on matchday one was cancelled out by defeat to Feyenoord.

Meanwhile Rangers beat the Dutch outfit in their opening fixture before losing out to Young Boys the following match.

And former Real Madrid superstar Pepe believes it would be disastrous for his side if they fail to come through the group stages and into the last-32.

He added: "Victory on Thursday would be so important. An error, especially at home could eliminate any of the teams.

"Everyone believes Porto will be in the next round but our club’s history doesn’t guarantee this.

"To go out at this stage would be a disaster for Porto."
