If you've been following Herald Sport's brand new On the Same Page podcast, you'll know how strongly I feel about Scottish transfers.

If not, make yourself a cuppa, grab a biscuit or two and buckle in - I've got all day.

To break it down a bit, we discussed movers and shakers in the transfer market and whether or not players leaving Scotland are beginning to leave the country for the cash they're worth.

Are Scottish clubs finally getting value in the transfer market?

To me, the answer is still a resounding no.

I won't bore you with the same points I made in our podcast, you can check that out HERE to listen more about it.

But what I will say is that Scottish clubs MUST start demanding more money for their prized assets.

As we've mentioned previously, Kieran Tierney went to Arsenal for £25million.

Moussa Dembele was sold to Lyon for almost £20million.

Two players who left Celtic for decent sums. But despite the usual 'Dembele-dollar' criticism, I do believe the Frenchman could've gone for more.

Brendan Rodgers knew it, too. As far as I'm concerned, the only reason Dembele went for so little was because the striker was desperate to leave.

When you look at Tierney, he's a record sale for a Scottish club. Fine.

But he's also better than Aaron Wan-Bissaka, in my opinion, who went for £50million to Manchester United - despite only playing for Crystal Palace a season-and-a-bit.

Odsonne Edouard is certain to be sold by Celtic next summer - but only for a Scottish record fee

There are a barrel load of players who have NOT left Scotland for respectable sums and yet have gone on to become big-timers.

Andy Robertson, for example. John McGinn.

One is now the best in the world in his position, the other is being touted for a £50million transfer.

They both left their Scottish clubs for a combined sum of around £5million.

I'll give you another example. Somewhat of a left-fielder.

Aaron Mooy was a decent player at St Mirren. When he opted to leave Scotland to head back to Australia, he did so on a freebie.

He was decent in Sydney, pretty good in Melbourne.

And through a partnership with the latter, English giants Manchester City signed the 29-year-old for buttons.

He didn't kick a ball for City before he was sent out on loan to Huddersfield Town where he made his name down south.

Steven Gerrard hits out at his players' mentality after Rangers fail to go top

An £8million transfer fee was then slapped on him which was paid by The Terriers.

I reiterate... he never kicked a ball for City.

Clubs buy potential when they buy players, young players especially.

So when Celtic sell Virgil van Dijk for just £12million and he goes on to become the world's best defender, the Hoops will undoubtedly STILL be kicking themselves.

I don't care how much of a sell-on clause was in his deal to Southampton.

One thing I will say is that it's nice to see Scottish clubs at least taking some pride, these days, in their players' potential.

Aberdeen refused to budge on Scott McKenna. Motherwell refused to budge on David Turnbull.

Alfredo Morelos won't leave Rangers for less than what Steven Gerrard will demand.

And you can expect that to be around £15million-£20million because Gerrard knows the market.

Neil Lennon's the same. If you think Odsonne Edouard or Kristoffer Ajer will go for any less, you're in for a surprise.

Joe Aribo is another one at Ibrox.

Scottish football has a lot of talented players who won't spend their whole careers north of the border.

My only hope is that, when these talents eventually do leave for pastures new, it's for a respectable fee.

A fee that comes even a fraction closer to the Monopoly money being thrown around down south.
