Ex-Celtic star Virgil van Dijk has made the nominees for this season's Ballon d'Or.

The centre-half was outstanding for Liverpool last season and won PFA Player of the Year.

Dutchman van Dijk, 28, was also named UEFA Men's Player of the Year and Defender of the Season.

In terms of club honours, van Dijk walked away with a Champions League winners medal and was part of the Liverpool side who ran eventual Premier League winners Manchester City desperately close.

Van Dijk heads a list of seven Liverpool players on the 30-man nomination list which also includes Mo Salah, Alisson Becker and Sadio Mane.

Usual suspects Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Eden Hazard also make the list.

The winner will be announced in Paris on December 2.
