RYAN JACK is determined to repay Steven Gerrard’s faith in him after penning a new long-term deal at Rangers.

The midfielder has committed his future to Gerrard’s side until the summer of 2023 and follows Nikola Katic in penning fresh terms as the Light Blues tie down their most influential stars.

Boss Gerrard revealed last week that a new deal for keeper Allan McGregor is also close to being finalised as he edges closer to the appearance clause that will activate an extension to his second spell at Ibrox.

The deal for Jack is a huge boost for Gerrard and the former Aberdeen captain is looking forward to what he hopes will be a bright future this term and beyond as Rangers look to end their long wait for silverware.

Jack said: “I’m delighted to commit my future to Rangers, and the club have shown great ambition to get me re-signed on a new deal.

“I’m over the moon and I’m looking forward to the future now. With the length of contract the club has given me, I hope to repay that in the next three-and-a-half years.”

Jack moved to Ibrox from Aberdeen during Pedro Caixinha’s only summer in charge of Rangers and has established himself as an integral part of the Light Blues squad in recent years.

The 27-year-old was rewarded for his fine form in December last year as he put pen-to-paper on an extension until 2021.

Gerrard was keen to show his faith in one of his most influential and consistent performers once again and the deal has now been done to keep Jack at Ibrox for the long term.

The Scotland international missed the draw with Hearts at the weekend as Rangers slipped to second place in the Premiership but he could return to the team for the Europa League clash with Porto on Thursday evening.

Jack has made 16 appearances for the Gers this season and Gerrard is delighted with the way he has handled himself on and off the park once again.

Gerrard said: “Ryan sets very high standards for himself and for others around him and that is exactly the kind of player and mentality that we want in throughout our squad.

“We believe that there is a lot more to come from him before he reaches his potential and we look forward to working with him for the next few years.”
