SERGIO CONCEIÇÃO has warned his Porto players not to only expect a physical battle from Rangers as they bid for top spot in Group G.

Steven Gerrard’s side have made the trip to the Estádio do Dragão with three points to their credit from the matches with Feyenoord and Young Boys and all of their section rivals have the same record from the opening two rounds of fixtures this term.

Porto lost in Rotterdam last time out and boss Conceicao is ready for a tough encounter against the Light Blues tonight.

He said: “We have a few things that need corrected. We have worked on them since losing to Feyenoord.

“The mindset is the most important thing. It is all about the state of mind. We lacked the quality you normally associate with us in Rotterdam.

“We have a strategy for the match. Traditionally Rangers and Scottish teams are all about fighting and being aggressive. They have a great attitude and the Scottish teams are always strong so we will have to fight for everything.

“People think they do not play football, but that is not the case. Yes, Rangers may be more direct but they can be very dangerous.

“We observed matches when they had more space and they are dangerous.

“If we are passive in our defending we will have a lot of problems. But, we are prepared for what they will throw at us.

Rangers were beaten 2-1 in Bern last time out. And Spanish stopper Ivan Marcano is ready for a busy 90 minutes.

He said: “I think Rangers are a good team but an aggressive team. They are very physical.

“They have players that can make the difference – guys like Morelos , Defoe and Ojo so we have to be wary of them.

“But, we have gone seven games out of eight without conceding a goal so we are confident we can handle them.

“We are defending well as a team and that gives you confidence.

“It helps when you have Pepe in central defence. He is an excellent player and we help each other. I’m grateful to him as he is one of the best professionals I have ever played with.”
