Southampton fans have begged manager Ralph Hassenhuttl to recall Celtic's Fraser Forster after watching his heroics in last night's Europa League win over Lazio.

The towering Englishman was a standout for the Hoops as they earned a 2-1 win over the Serie A giants at Parkhead.

Two massive stops, in particular, drew huge praise including a wonder-save in stoppage time to preserve the three points for the hosts.

The win leaves Celts top of Group E but Saints fans were more concerned with the talents shown by their loan goalkeeper.

Forster departed St Mary's on a season-long loan and has so far been in inspired form for the Scottish champions.

And it has left Southampton - who currently sit 17th in the English Premier League - with Angus Gunn between the sticks who has so far conceded 16 goals in just nine games this season.

Fans took to social media last night to urge Hassenhuttl to keep a watchful eye on Forster - with a view to bringing him back on the form he's in.

One referenced his last-minute save, saying: "Idc, McCarthy and Gunn are nowhere near the level of shotstopper as Forster. Absolutely unreal save".

Another added: "Fraser Forster in his prime is the best keeper we’ve had, always will respect that guy!

"Would love to see him back to his best. #SaintsFC".

One commented: "It doesn’t take a genius to know that Forster is actually a good goalkeeper and probably better than Gunn, who doesn’t get slated half as much!"

A fourth wrote: "Shocking our fans are now rating Forster - where was that support when he was going through his bad patch for us? #SaintsFC"
