Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has urged UEFA to do more to protect players after Porto fans launched coins and lighters at Connor Goldson and Alfredo Morelos.

Gers held their hosts to an impressive 1-1 draw in Portugal thanks to a brilliant equaliser from Morelos after Luis Diaz scored a stunner to give his side the lead.

But as the Gers players celebrated in the corner of Estadio do Dragao they were pelted with objects from the stands.

Rangers defender Connor Goldson condemns Porto fans that launched coins and lighters at him and Alfredo Morelos

Defender Goldson condemned the issue after the match but boss Gerrard admits he wasn't made aware of the incident until earlier this morning.

And the Light Blues gaffer says UEFA have to look at these types of incidents which continue to rear their heads and bring the game into disrepute.

"The players didn't say anything to me, I went into the dressing room and addressed the players after the game, but it wasn't brought to my attention," Gerrard said this morning.

Five things we learned from Rangers' 1-1 draw against Porto

"It was only brought to my attention five minutes ago but it's something we don't like to see, objects and missiles getting through from the stands.

"We've got to think about the safety of the players but we've seen that on numerous occasions but that must stop.

"I think UEFA need to look into that and try and deal with it.

"As I say, it's only just been brought to my attention so I don't think it's too big of a thing as far as we're concerned."
