GREG STEWART doesn’t envy Steven Gerrard having to chose between Jermain Defoe and Alfredo Morelos.

The striker is just thankful he gets the opportunity to work alongside them both at Ibrox.

Morelos leads the Rangers’ scoring charts with 16 goals this season. On Sunday, Defoe took his tally for the campaign to 13 as he netted in the crucial win over Motherwell.

Stewart has had the chance to train and play with the strikers since making the move from Birmingham in the summer but has just one goal - in the 5-0 victory against Aberdeen - to his credit so far.

He has previously turned out for the likes of Cowdenbeath and Dundee and reckons he is in the best shape of his career.

The help of Defoe has been invaluable as the 29-year-old looks to make an impression at Ibrox this season.

Stewart said: “It is unbelievable to play alongside someone of his quality and it must be really difficult for the gaffer who he is going to pick between the two.

“But it is a good problem to have I would say to have two strikers that are scoring for fun. Off the ball, the movement, they hold it up, they fight, they can do everything between them.

“We have got that big a squad that we have got a player for every situation and it can change with the opponent, how we want to play. We have got a lot of players and that has been good for the team. To have those two scoring goals every week, it is brilliant.

“Jermain’s an inspiration for me. He is the ultimate professional, the way he’s gone through his career. You get tips off him on the training ground too and great advice.

“He’s been brilliant with me as well. So, it’s just great to play alongside players like that. He’s someone I wouldn’t hesitate to go and ask advice of. He’s always prepared to help anyone in the team. Jermain’s just that kind of guy, he’d do anything to help you.

“He just gives you general advice on the pitch, what runs he makes, where to pass it. It can help me too. And you think about what he’s telling you and realise ‘he’s right’.”
