NEIL Lennon last night described Celtic’s play in a 5-2 victory over Hibernian in the Betfred Cup semi-final at Hampden that stretched their winning run in cup ties to 30 games as “breathtaking”.

Doubles from both captain Scott Brown and winger Mohammed Elyounoussi and a Callum McGregor strike sent the defending champions into their seventh consecutive cup final.

Lennon, whose team will take on the winners of this afternoon’s last four clash between Hearts and Rangers next month, was effusive in his praise of his team afterwards.

“We were breathtaking today from start to finish really,” he said. “Some of the football and the attacking intent, obviously we scored five goals, was fantastic for a semi-final.

“We were absolutely scintillating today. I can’t speak highly enough about the level of performance and the mentality of the players at the minute. They are in a good place.”

Asked about the winning run, Lennon said: “I don’t know where it ranks in British football in terms of records, but it is amazing. Anything can happen on any given day. I have had bad days as a player and a manager. The players just don’t want to give it up.”

Lennon singled out his skipper Brown, who was a doubt for the game due to a minor injury, for his contribution to the win.

“We were obviously concerned about him coming off on Wednesday,” he said. “He would have been a big loss. But he came through the fitness test no problem, lasted 90 minutes and scored two goals. He just keeps writing more stories for himself.”

Meanwhile, Lennon confirmed that Boli Bolingoli, who failed to reappear for the second-half after suffering a hamstring strain, is a doubt for the Europa League match against Lazio in Rome on Thursday. “We will have to assess him and see how he is,” he said.
