Rangers welcome FC Porto to Ibrox this evening, hoping to build on their impressive 1-1 draw in Portugal two weeks ago.

Here, our writers give their opinions on how it could all go down.

If Steven Gerrard’s side can replicate their performance from the first game at Ibrox then a famous win could be on the cards.

Steven Gerrard reckons Porto 'maxed out' against Rangers in Europa League draw

Porto may have missed out on the Champions League this term but they are still a quality outfit and will be dangerous tonight.

Gerrard was positive at his pre-match press conference on Wednesday and Rangers will be on the front foot on home soil. A win is needed and they can sneak it tonight.

Prediction: Rangers 2-1 Porto

Mark Hendry

Rangers were unfortunate not to take more from their visit to Portugal and came away with a decent draw, in the end.

That should provide them with the confidence they need to take the game to Porto this evening in front of a sell-out crowd at Ibrox.

Celtic and Rangers' Euro rivals Lazio and Porto earn vital wins ahead of matchday four clashes

Atmosphere has never been an issue in Glasgow on these big nights and the crowd will be behind Steven Gerrard's men.

They outplayed Feyenoord earlier in the group at home and will look to do so against Porto.

And off the back of a 3-0 win over Hearts last weekend, confidence will be sky-high.

Prediction: Rangers 1-0 Porto

Graeme McGarry

The draw that Rangers earned in Porto last time out will give them great encouragement for tonight, and I think they will have enough to record a famous victory.

You could see the belief growing within the Rangers players as the game wore on in Portugal, as they realised that although Porto may be a famous name, this current incarnation of their side aren’t world-beaters by any stretch.

Steven Davis hopes Rangers can replicate Porto performance to take step towards European knock-out rounds

Yes, they are still a very good team and Steven Gerrard’s men will have to be wary of their threats, but I feel that the attacking arsenal at Rangers’ disposal roared on by a vociferous Ibrox crowd will be too much for them.

Prediction: Rangers 3-1 Porto

Paige Beresford

Rangers were the better side the last time they faced Porto despite the 1-1 scoreline.

If they have a similar level of performance with good passes, control and composure then they could end up with a positive result.

Steven Gerarrd’s side have played well in Europa League games at Ibrox and having 50,000 fans behind them will definitely boost their confidence.

They’ve played best with a 4-3-3 formation and it’s likely the Rangers gaffer will do the same again.

If he links Helander – a player who has senior international experience and boasts 64 appearances in three seasons with Italian Serie A club Bologna - with Goldson and get Kent in full flow then Porto could be in for a shock tonight.

Prediction: Rangers 2-1 Porto

James Cairney

Rangers secured a fantastic point last time around against Porto and I imagine tonight’s game will finish similarly.

The Liga NOS runners-up have stuttered a little domestically recently – they drew away to Maritimo and scraped a win over bottom-side Aves in their last two games – but I would expect an improved performance in Europe.

A win for either side could prove decisive in determining which sides will qualify for the knockout stages but I can’t see much separating them.

Steven Gerrard has an excellent European record – he’s only lost three games – and in general, they have played well at Ibrox in Europe.

I think Rangers will be knocking on the door and will be the better team, but I can see Sergio Conceicao’s side nicking a point in Govan.

Prediction: Rangers 1-1 Porto

If Rangers can replicate their performance against Porto in Portugal a fortnight ago they can, with the Ibrox support behind them, record a famous win and take a giant stride towards the Europa League group stages.

It is asking a lot for them to play as well as they did in the Estadio do Dragao  - Steven Gerrard described their display as "nearly perfect".

But Rangers have momentum behind them in Europe and believe they are good enough to claim the scalp of their renowned opponents.

James Tavernier appears to have recovered from the dip in form he suffered earlier this season. He and his teammates must ensure there are no needless errors as the visitors will pounce on them and punish their hosts.

Rangers must, too, be clinical in attack.

They gave been guilty of squandering chances in continental competition in the past and have to convert their opportunities on this occasion. But with Alfredo Morelos in the form of his life that shouldn't be an issue.
