IF Neil Lennon was to walk into the Celtic changing room this weekend and ask if any of the players wanted a rest for the Motherwell game, I would wager he wouldn’t find any volunteers.
As a player, when you come off the back of a big win like the one Celtic achieved against Lazio, then you feel as if you could play again the next day. You are just itching to get back out there because your adrenaline is still pumping and your confidence is still flowing.
I have always believed that a lot of fatigue in players starts in the mind. When you are winning games you are flying and don’t really feel the little aches and pains, whereas if you are on a bad run, then suddenly these things can become more of an issue.
Those Celtic players just now won’t want to come out of the side. They won’t be thinking about the matches to come or the hectic schedule ahead, they will just want to play.
Neil Lennon has also said before that when his team are on a high like they are at the moment, he is reluctant to make too many changes so as not to lose that momentum they have built up, and I expect that he will remain true to that philosophy on Sunday.
Motherwell are flying high at the moment and will be a dangerous opponent. They showed enough in their recent visit to Ibrox to suggest that facing the Old Firm away doesn’t faze them, and they are third in the league for a reason.
I fancy there may be a few tweaks to the Celtic line-up, with Jeremie Frimpong perhaps and maybe Ton Rogic coming back in, but this is a vital game for the club, and I expect Neil Lennon will give the fixture the respect it deserves by fielding a really strong team.
