NEIL ALEXANDER hopes Steven Gerrard can kick-start a glittering career in management by leading Rangers to silverware this season.

The Liverpool icon has made a significant impact on and off the park at Ibrox during his 18 months as Light Blues boss.

Alexander was back on familiar territory last month for the Legends match between Rangers and the Reds as Alex McLeish's side suffered a 3-2 defeat on home soil.

And the former keeper is confident Gerrard is the right man to deliver success and end the long wait for a trophy as the Gers bid for the Premiership title and cup glory this term.

Alexander told the FourLadsHadADream Podcast: "There is definitely an aura around Steven Gerrard when he walks into the changing room. Everyone sits up, takes notice and is quiet to listen to what he has to say.

"He came round us before the game and introduced himself and said hello, which was great. I had a bit of a laugh and joke during the game, he tried to chip me a couple of times and he was desperate to score so we had a laugh about that.

"I didn’t get a chance to have a proper chat with him but he is a really nice guy, he has done exceptionally well and he looks like he is going to be a top manager.

"He has been exactly what Rangers needed, he has got that enthusiasm, the drive and that passion like the Rangers support and he is a winner.

"He demands high standards day in day out and he knows how to win as well. I think he has been a fantastic signing for Rangers and he can attract the best players because everyone wants to play for him.

"I have heard such good things from the players about him and I think he will be a top, top manager. Hopefully he starts winning silverware at Rangers."
