The goal that James Forrest scored at Hampden last Sunday is the type of goal a player at the top of his game nets.

I actually think that Forrest has started this season the way that Scott Sinclair started last year – he has been consistently on it, especially in the big, high pressure games.

He took his goal fantastically well on Sunday and I think that both he and Callum McGregor have taken so much confidence from the way that the performed against Bayern Munich at Celtic Park in the Champions League.

The same would go for Kieran Tierney, who is another who has kicked on a notch again this season. You almost take Tierney for granted because he is so consistent.

But I think that these three have been excellent this season. All three have come through the academy system at Celtic as we know but we have seen is a willingness to keep learning and improving and they have lifted it a level again this season.

I think many people would have expected that Patrick Roberts would have had taken precedence over Forrest in the team this term.

But having missed a pre-season, Forrest took his chance and you would have to say that he deserves to be in there because of his performances.

Roberts has picked up another hamstring injury now which will be frustrating for him but there is always that danger of niggly injuries when you miss out on a strong pre-season.

Ironically, Forrest has stayed clear of any injury issues lately.

And that, I think, comes down to the fact as a squad this is the fittest team in the league. Guys like Forrest and McGregor have actually changed their body shape.

People underestimate just how important that is. They are at the top of their game because they are also at the peak of their physical condition – hence the fact you can be chasing a lost ball with minutes left of a game you look like losing.
