Celtic's Anthony Ralston has extended his contract with the Parkhead club by agreeing an extension to his current contract.

The Hoops kid has signed a new four-and-half year deal with Brendan Rodgers' side after impressing in the senior side this term.

Ralston has made seven first-team appearances this season, scoring his first goal for the club as Celtic defeated Kilmarnock 5-0 in the League Cup.

The teenager also started in the Hoops' 5-0 Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain at Celtic Park as he enjoyed a duel with Neymar, the world's most expensive player, throughout.

A knee injury has kept him out of first-team action for the last three months but he is thrilled to have committed his future to Celtic.

“It’s a great feeling to sign with the club I’ve been with since I’ve been young," he told www.celticfc.co.uk. "This is where I want to be and I want to start playing more games. I’ve enjoyed getting a taste of it and I’m looking forward to the future.

”It’s great, with the length of the contract, to have that out the way and I can focus on the football side of things. It’s a great feeling and I’m delighted.

“There are so many ups and downs that come with being a footballer. I’ve enjoyed the experiences I’ve had up to now. With the injury, it’s just one of these things that happen and it’s how you come back from it.

“But it’s been a good start for me in my career and signing the contract now, I’m just looking forward to getting on with my football over the next few years.”

The player has also thanked Rodgers for his willingness to offer exposure to first-team football for the youth players at the club.

“It’s great and that’s what the gaffer does,” he said. “It gives the young boys a lot of hope coming through that they can get the chance if they work hard. It’s great to see players coming through and hopefully there’s a lot more to come from me in the years ahead.

“For 2018, I just want to get my head down, work hard to get back to full fitness and kick on with the football, but signing this new contract has definitely been the best Christmas present!”
