THIS time last year, deadline day proved to be a bit of a damp squib.

There were rumours of late, dramatic bids for Celtic stars Moussa Dembele and Craig Gordon, but nothing came of it despite Parkhead pulses being raised when the French striker was pictured on a morning flight to London. In the end, it transpired he just was there for a knee scan.

In total, nine players arrived at Scottish Premiership clubs on 31 January 2017. We have taken a look back to rate each one as a hit or a miss – do you agree?

Dundee

Henrik Ojamaa – Go Ahead Eagles, loan

MISS – The former Motherwell striker returned to Scotland to pen a deal at Dens Park until the end of the season from Dutch side Go Ahead Eagles, but his spell with Dundee was fruitless as he failed to find the net in 14 appearances and lost his place by the end of the campaign.

The Estonian was released last summer by the Dutch club and is now plying his trade in the Croatian second tier with HNK Gorica.

Glasgow Times:

Marc Klok – Oldham, free

MISS: Ex-Ross County man Klok came in to reinforce the Dark Blues’ midfield options as time ran out, but he made just two substitute appearances for the club in February before failing to feature again for the rest of the season. The Dutchman now finds himself in Poland with PSM Makassar.

Inverness

Billy McKay – Wigan, loan

HIT: Relegation battling Caley hoped that the return of a former hero could help them dodge the drop and while the striker ultimately failed in achieving that goal, he put in some good performances to justify his capture.

In his second game the Northern Ireland internationalist provided a goal and an assist in a 2-2 draw with Dundee, before scoring the winner in a win over Rangers later in February. Two more goals followed before the end of the campaign, but it wasn’t enough to save the Highlanders from the drop and things got worse for the Caley faithful when McKay signed a deal with rivals Ross County last summer.

Jamie McCart - Celtic, loan

HIT: The Celtic youngster got his first taste of regular Premiership football in Inverness and impressed in 11 assured performances during his loan spell. The teenager, who recently went on loan to Alloa, described the experience as ‘absolutely invaluable’ despite failing to stave off relegation.

Kilmarnock

Conor Sammon – Hearts , loan

HIT: Sammon returned to the scene of his most prolific form by sealing a loan move to Kilmarnock from Hearts. While the Irishman failed recreate his 2010/11 streak, when he struck 15 league goals in half a season at Rugby Park, he made an important contribution by scoring five times in 15 games and being an almost ever-present in the Killie line-up.

Glasgow Times:

Joshua Umerah – Charlton, loan

MISS: The teenager was sold on a temporary move north by former Killie striker Josh Magennis, but the teenager failed to make the same impact as his Charlton teammate and returned to his parent club at the end of the season with just four substitute appearances to his name.

Scott Boyd – Ross County, free

HIT: Boyd had already been with Kilmarnock for half a season on loan when his move was made permanent on deadline day. The former Ross County centre-back played an important squad role under Lee McCulloch before his season was cut short in April due to a foot injury.

Partick Thistle

Jason Banton – Crawley Town , loan

MISS: One of the later deals, Alan Archibald strengthened his squad with the 24-year-old Crawley winger. Unfortunately for the Jags, he suffered a groin injury within a week of arriving and failed to make a single appearance for the club before the campaign ended.

St Johnstone

Clive Smith – Preston, loan

MISS: Tommy Wright brought in the Welsh right-back on the final day of business. The 19-year-old said on arrival that a conversation with Preston teammate Stevie May helped settle his nerves about the move to Perth, but he failed to make anything like the same impression as the striker at McDiarmid Park, featuring in just two games during his six-month loan spell.
