HIBERNIAN striker Oli Shaw insists the Leith side can draw confidence from their recent home form against Celtic when the Premiership leaders arrive on Sunday.

Neil Lennon’s team collected four points from the two league matches against the champions at Easter Road last season and are determined to build on their victory at Hamilton six days ago following a seven-game winless rut.

Shaw was among the goals in the 2-2 draw with the reigning champions last December and goes into the televised clash on a high after netting two in his last two matches.

Despite injury worries to seven of Lennon’s side, Shaw is full of belief that Hibs, who will face Rangers twice and city rivals Hearts during a daunting festive schedule, can give Celtic a fright.

Shaw said: “Celtic are a class side but so are we, we’ve shown that when we play against them we can cause them problems and we’ll look forward to it and hopefully we can get a result.

“We all know our jobs and what we want to do and we want to go and put a performance on, but more importantly we want to get the win.

“The confidence wasn’t really low going into last weekend but we knew we were in a sticky situation and we were happy to get the three points.

“The fixtures don’t get much easier but we’ll make sure we prepare properly ahead of Sunday."

Shaw, who has scored five goals this term, has started the last two games at Jamie Maclaren’s expense and the 20-year-old is delighted is to be firmly in Lennon’s plans.

He added: “The gaffer has shown faith in me to throw me in to these games and as a striker that’s what you want to do - and I’m happy to get two goals in two games and more importantly to get the three points.

“We saw that their goalie (Jacob Marsden) come on at half-time and we wanted to test him right away.

“We put on the pressure and we felt in the second half we had control of the game and it was only a matter of time before we got that chance.”

Shaw admits the second half introduction of Emerson Hyndman and Daryl Horgan made a difference against Accies, with the latter setting up the forward for the only goal.

He added: “Emerson is a class player and so is Daryl, the subs were important for us when they came on, they changed the game.

“We were on the front foot, you saw Daryl and the class he’s got to whip in the cross and I was there to tap it in.”
