MIKEY Johnston hit a double and Filip Benkovic added a third for Celtic as they swept Dundee aside with ease.

Brendan Rodgers’ men got their second 3-0 win of the week, with Johnston getting half of the goals in those two matches, and it really should have been more against a poor Dundee outfit.

Anthony Ralston picked up where he left off after his impressive performance against Motherwell midweek, rampaging down the right before firing a ball across goal that Jack Hamilton just managed to touch away from Scott Sinclair.

Celtic went close again moments later as Olivier Ntcham fed Johnston and the young stand-in forward brought a save from Hamilton, before Sinclair’s effort from the rebound was headed off the line by Nathan Ralph.

It wasn’t all one-way traffic, as a Dundee break ended with Martin Woods taking aim from 25 yards and firing just wide of Scott Bain’s left-hand post. But that was about as good as it got for the visitors on the day.

Celtic went close again as a driving run by Sinclair ended with the winger chipping the ball in for Johnston to volley off the crossbar, and the youngster also had a header saved by Hamilton before sliding an effort just wide as he tormented the Dundee backline.

It seemed like a matter of time before he would get on the scoresheet, and just before the interval he finally managed it. The 19-year-old took a pass from Callum McGregor brilliantly on the turn to leave Ryan Innis for dead and then calmly slotted the ball low past Hamilton into the bottom right-hand corner. It was no more than he and Celtic deserved.

Just after the interval, Johnston had his second of the game and his third of the week, and it was all too easy for the champions. Sinclair, who had been excellent throughout, got to the byline and dinked a cross to the back post where Johnston reached it with his head to nod home off the underside of the bar.

That settled the match as a contest, such as it ever was one, and the only question was how many Celtic would go on to score.

Ralston should have added a third but missed a free header from an Emilio Izaguirre corner, before the full-back got on the end of a wonderful McGregor pass to force Hamilton into a fine save.

Ryan Christie returned to the fray just after the hour to a warm reception from the Celtic fans, and it wasn’t long before he made an impact. His shot from just inside the box was palmed out by Hamilton, but Benkovic was on hand to follow up and help the ball into the net.

Ralston was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet as Christie released him into the area only for his low shot across Hamilton to rebound off the post and into the goalkeeper’s arms.

Sinclair had a cheeky flick cleared off the line in injury time, but Celtic now go into the crunch matches against Aberdeen and Rangers firing on all cylinders after a satisfying few days' work.
