SCOTT BAIN: Given a rare outing in the Premiership against his former club and can rarely have had a quieter afternoon. Did the little that was expected of him competently enough, and could likely wear his strip and gloves on Boxing Day without the need to wash them. 6

ANTHONY RALSTON: Another really promising showing from the young full-back, who followed up his accomplished performance against Motherwell in midweek by playing this game on the front foot too. Will wonder quite how he didn’t manage to get another goal, hitting the post late on and passing up several other opportunities. 8

FILIP BENKOVIC: Little to do at the back, so got himself forward to get involved in the game, and followed up Ryan Christie’s shot like a natural striker to pick up the scraps from Jack Hamilton’s save and help himself to a goal. 7

JOZO SIMUNOVIC: Again, a comfortable afternoon for the Croat, and it will be interesting to see if Brendan Rodgers breaks up his blossoming partnership with compatriot Benkovic as Dedryck Boyata returns to the fold for the games at Aberdeen and Rangers. Off just before the hour. 6

EMILIO IZAGUIRRE: Enjoying his unexpected run of games, and showed here that he still has a lot to offer as an understudy to Kieran Tierney as he got forward to good effect at times and used the ball well. Never troubled defensively. 7

CALLUM MCGREGOR: Captain for the day and orchestrated proceedings from his deep-lying role brilliantly. Played a wonderful pass into Mikey Johnston for the opening goal and bossed the midfield as he celebrated his new contract in style. 7

JAMES FORREST: Bursts of real quality when he got involved in the game, although not quite at the explosive levels he has been of late. Given a welcome rest just after the hour with the game already in the bag. 6

TOM ROGIC: Always unpredictable but often inspirational, the Aussie showed at times just how much he will be missed when he goes away on international duty after the Aberdeen game on Boxing Day. Used the ball well and showed some moments of real quality. 7

OLIVIER NTCHAM: Looks as if he is playing in cruise control, but there is no doubt that he was up for this game. Worked hard for the cause and got caught a couple of times as a result, but always came back for more and used the ball well. 7

SCOTT SINCLAIR: Much more like his old self over the last couple of games and was bang on form here, putting defenders on the back foot with his pace and skill and looks to have regained a good measure of confidence. Always a threat, and provided a delicious assist for Johnston’s second goal. 8

MIKEY JOHNSTON: He may only be 19 and not even a natural striker, but on this evidence, you would never have known. Scored twice and could have had a few more. Turn for the first goal was exquisite and even popped up with a header for his second. Wonderful movement and great feet all afternoon. 9

SUBSTITUTES:

KRISTOFFER AJER: Got last half an hour in place of Jozo Simunovic and slotted in to the heart of the defence seamlessly. 5

RYAN CHRISTIE: A welcome return for the midfielder, and it was his shot that eventually led to Celtic’s third. 5

JONNY HAYES: Got around quarter of an hour in place of Mikey Johnston and tried to get involved. 3
