It is good to see that Timothy Weah looks set to become the first signing of the January window because we can all see that Celtic can do with some reinforcements.

But I would be a little bit wary of bringing in young players who then block the door to the first-team for some of the youngsters who are already at the club.

I don’t think Mikey Johnston has done too much wrong this month when he has been asked to go and do a job for the first-team.

The lad looks as though he is more than capable of being the next product of the club’s academy system to go in and make an impression in the senior side and the last thing you want to do is curtail the education of these players at that level.

Weah sounds a like a pedigree player not just because of who his father was but the very fact that he is at PSG at this stage in his career but at the same time you also need to allow your own kids to find a way through.

In saying that, I don’t think that Weah will be the end of it. I am sure that there will be at least one or two other players to follow as Celtic look to make up for what was a disappointing summer.

They remain in the hunt for a right-back and I think that there could still be another centre-half in there as well, especially since Dedryck Boyata’s situation is so up in the air.

In any case, though, guys like Johnston and Anthony Ralston did not do themselves any harm when they came into the team during what was a hectic festive spell.
