Callum McGregor has insisted that any criticism of Scott Sinclair is unwarranted. The 29-year-old netted his eighth goal in seven games in the 3-0 win over Hamilton Accies at the weekend to take his tally for the season to 13 - just one behind Celtic's top scorer Odsonne Edouard. And McGregor has insisted that he has never been under any illusion as to just what Sinclair brings to the team. "He is on an excellent run," said the midfielder. "The thing with Scotty is that I keep hearing people saying that he is not playing well and yet he is scoring goals week in, week out for us. "I think he set his standard so high in that first season when he was almost unplayable at times. "There isn't a player in the world who doesn't take a dip at some point but he has always chipped in with goals and assists - I think last season he scored 17 goals for us. It's not bad, is it? "The last few games we are seeing him going past people, he is calling for the ball all the time and he is winning penalties and scoring goals so I am delighted for him. "As players we always know what he brings and how important he is to the team. But I am delighted for him because he definitely looks as though he is bang on form again and that is good news for us." Meanwhile, McGregor has insisted that he won't be asking for a rest after featuring in every one of Celtic's games this season. Between club and country McGregor has played 47 matches but he is in no mood to down tools for a breather. "I feel good," he said. "I think you always want to play, especially when the team is winning and successful and you want to be a part of that. "It hasn't crossed my mind that I would go and say that I needed to take a rest. Physically I feel good. I don't have any injury problems and I love being out there. "It's a privilege to player here and I'd be delighted to go and play every game now this season if I could." Celtic host St Johnstone on Wednesday evening, the start of a run of games against the Perthshire side between the Scottish Cup, the league and a rearranged fixture. Taking three points would enable Celtic to stretch further ahead at the top of the table with McGregor keen to keep the winning home run going. "We always just take it every game at a time," he said. "It can be a bit odd when you are playing the same team so often in a short space of time. "But it happened last season against Motherwell and the manager shook things up a bit for every game. I think in the third game against them we won 5-0 so I think we will always look to try and keep it fresh. "In terms of Wednesday night it is just a chance now to keep this wee run of form going. Hopefully we can take all three points but we know that it will be a tough night for us. "St Johnstone will make it hard for us but it's up to us to go and find a way past them."
