Peter Lawwell has taken a little bit of flak in his time at Celtic.

But on Wednesday night as Odsonne Edouard’s 92nd minute goal went in at Tynecastle, the Celtic chief executive was as delighted as any other Celtic fan.

You say what you like but my guess is that he is chief executive at his dream club.

And by moving swiftly to get Neil Lennon in to replace Brendan Rodgers he was alert to the deeply unsettling effect that Rodgers exit could have had.

And for all that he is a business man and deserve credit for the manner in which the club is run, you cannot forget that he is a Celtic fan as well.

And what really shone out for me in the aftermath of the win through in Edinburgh was the way in which he and Lennon seemed to celebrate the result together.

They have done well in limiting the after-effects of what was a shocking start to the week and for me that result at Tynecastle is absolutely huge. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that is the win that pretty much ties up the league title.

There is a bit to go yet but psychologically for me those three points were absolutely huge.

Rangers would have been been encouraged not just by the departure of Rodgers this week but also the disharmony that it caused.

And there is no doubt that it would have been an absolute sickener for them when Edouard nicked in to make sure that Celtic maintained that 8-point lead at the top of the table.

And I think Celtic were entitled to their celebrations on its aftermath given the week that has been.
