New Rob Roy gaffer Stewart Maxwell has vowed to handle the pressure of having a foot in the camp of two Junior clubs.

A surprise Adamslie Park announcement revealed the 37-year-old defender as the next Rabs boss, taking over at the end of this season from Jimmy Lindsay, who is quitting to take up a coaching post in Malta.

But Maxi believes he has unfinished business as a player with his current club Petershill, and is determined to bow out on a high by helping the Peasy clinch silverware success – even if it is at the expense of his new club.

And there has to be every chance of that very scenario unfolding given the Super Premier pair are in opposite halves of the New Coin Holdings Cup draw and are contemplating tough semi-final encounters tomorrow night.

Rob Roy would appear to have arguably the less exacting contest in hosting the visit of lower-league Neilston at the same time as Maxi and his Petershill team-mates are through in Barrhead lining up against Arthurlie.

The seasoned full-back has enlisted his former Kilwinning Rangers gaffer Billy Thomson and one-time Clydebank wing ace Paul Ronald into his backroom team.

He said: "It would be a dream come true for me if both clubs made it into the final and I scored Petershill's winning goal.

"I mentioned this possibility at my interview to Rob Roy's officials and they laughed, but deep down they know there is absolutely no chance of me having any conflict of interest for the remainder of the term.

"I'm totally committed to Petershill and that translates into giving my all for the twin managers Scott Smith and Willie Patterson as well as my team-mates.

"We're a close-knit bunch and I have loved my time in Springburn over the past couple of years. So much so I was close to putting pen to paper on a new contract.

"It's strange how things have worked out, but the chance to manage a club of Rob Roy's stature doesn't come around too often and I felt that the opportunity was just too good to turn down.

"I had four terrific seasons there as a player and still enjoy a good relationship with the people running the club, so I'm going in with my eyes fully wide open as to the potential there.

"These are exciting times with a new stadium in the offing and other development plans going on behind the scenes."

Maxi is convinced his new backroom team appointments will prove their worth.

He added: "Being a rookie boss, I just felt it important to surround myself with some experience, so I'm delighted Billy and Paul are going to be at my side.

"Billy is someone I have kept in touch with ever since playing under him at Kilwinning Rangers and I know first-hand what he brings to the table.

"Paul is a highly-rated coach who has all his badges and I can see players enjoying his training routines.

"We had an introductory meeting with the Rob Roy players last night to let them know our intentions and I felt things went well.

"We've no plans for another get-together this season, but I did say to the guys that I'd see them again in the New Coin Cup final."

In the only game to be played in the West Region last night, Thorniewood United kept alive their hopes of securing the Super First Division play-off spot through a 4-2 defeat of Yoker at Holm Park.

And Kieron McGuinness' men did things the hard way in fighting back from a Mark McManus goal for the Whe Ho to net three times through Aiden Malone, Stuart Livingston and Darren Murphy.

Despite being reduced to nine men, Yoker pulled a goal back through Gary Arbuckle, but Livingston netted his second goal of the night to seal the points for the visitors.
