John Bradford is out to avenge Cumnock's trophy heartache as he aims to shoot down Beith in the Ardagh Glass Cup final tomorrow.

Only four months have elapsed since Nock succumbed to a surprise 3-0 reverse in the Ayrshire Cup showpiece at the hands of the then Super First Division outfit Largs Thistle.

The memories are still painfully fresh for the 33-year-old striker, and he reckons nobody in the Townhead Park camp is feeling complacent about the clash with Super First Beith.

He admitted: "We got our comeuppance against Largs because our attitude wasn't right on the night so we owe it to our supporters to make amends.

"There is no chance of us making the same mistake again against Beith as they boast a whole raft of players who would walk into most top-flight sides.

"In fact I would say their run of 13 wins from 13 competitive games this season possibly marks them out as favourites going into the final.

"That said, this current Nock team has been going along strongly as well and have only lost one game to date and we don't fear anyone."

Winning numerous silverware prizes with old Junior clubs Arthurlie and Irvine Meadow has Bradford fired up to taste trophy success for the first time with Cumnock.

He said: "This is a sleeping giant of a club that should be regularly challenging for major honours and it is up to the players to fulfil the dreams of our supporters.

"There were signs last season of a decent side coming together and if anything we are much improved now."

The seasoned front man - the Nock's top marksman last season with 20 goals to his name - has declared himself ready to play a part in the Portland Park showdown despite not having played competitively for the past month due to a pelvic problem.

He said: "I have not done a lot of training in recent weeks in trying to rest my injury, but I played 90 minutes in last Monday night's 3-1 friendly win against Dalry Thistle.

"I'm not fully tuned up and probably couldn't get through a full 90 minutes, but I'm ready to give everything if needed."

Boss Brian McLuckie said: "John and our other recent injury concerns Sean Pierce and Paul McInness all managed 90 minutes against Dalry so I now have the pleasant headache of a full squad to choose from, barring Raymond Montgomerie who is cup tied with Auchinleck.

"We have watched Beith on three occasions and know their strengths are undoubtedly in the middle-to-front area

"But winning this final is not just about shutting the back door. We will need to offer an attacking threat of our own at the other end of the pitch.

"Too many Cumnock players had an off day when we last played in a final so it would be great to set the record straight."

On the Junior transfer front comes word of Kilwinning snapping up ex-Cumnock, St Mirren and Ayr United hitman Robbie Weir who has returned after four years in the US with the Brooklyn Italians.

Buffs boss George Grierson is hoping international clearance comes through to enable Weir to make his debut when Rangers visit Lesmahagow in a Super First Division encounter today.

And Largs Thistle have strengthened by signing ex- Morton ace Dylan McLaughlin.
