Stef Reid can't wait to dazzle the crowd at next month's glamorous Diamond League meeting at Hampden.

In just two weeks' time, the cream of world athletics talent including Mo Farah, Greg Rutherford, Sally Pearson and Yohan Blake will take to the newly-laid track at Hampden in the Sainsbury's Glasgow Grand Prix on July 11/12.

Para-athlete Reid can't wait to join them at the national stadium where she will be competing in the T44 Long Jump event.

And the 29-year-old Paralympic silver medallist admits getting to compete is the perfect opportunity to put her disappointment at missing out on selection for the 2014 Commonwealth Games behind her.

"I'm really looking forward to the Diamond League and getting the chance to compete at Hampden," she said. "I was gutted at not being able to compete at the Commonwealth Games as my event, the T44 Long Jump, isn't part of the para programme.

"Because of that I decided to try and qualify for the able- bodied long jump at the Games, but the minimum standard was 6.20m. I knew it would be a long shot but I thought I'd go for it.

"While I was trying to do that I set a world record in my category so I reckon that's a good consolation prize.

"I didn't make the standard for the able-bodied long jump in the end, but that's another reason why I'm so excited to be invited to be part of the Diamond League in Glasgow so I can get the chance to run at Hampden.

"I haven't been on the track yet, but I've seen pictures of it and it looks fantastic. The fact it's Hampden and in Glasgow just makes it even better because I know the Glasgow crowds will be amazing."

Glasgow holds a special place in Reid's heart as her dad Phillip was born in the city so she sees herself as an honorary Glaswegian.

And she reckons every time she visits our city she learns a little bit more about what makes her dad tick.

He said: "I just love being in Scotland. My dad grew up in Glasgow and it feels like every time I'm in Scotland I understand him so much more.

"He's worked in the hospitality industry all his life as a chef and always been the life and soul of the party, a great host and entertainer and the more I'm in Scotland the more I realise that's just the Glasgow and Glaswegian way. The second you get into a cab in Glasgow and you hear your first Glaswegian voice, it's just night and day compared to anywhere else in the world.

"The great thing about the crowd at Hampden for the Diamond League is they are knowledgeable and encouraging, they really get into it.

"They make you feel great and I always jump best when I'm relaxed and I'm looking forward to Glasgow and being part of a big party at Hampden.

"When I'm training it's always in private and I'm very focused, but it's great to have other people so interested in what you're doing and they're embracing your passion for your sport. When you're there to compete you want to feel that and you can't help but feel the passion in Glasgow."

Reid has clearly taken the Glasgow crowd to her heart and she's hoping they will do the same for her husband Brent Lakatos, a Canadian wheelchair racer.

"My husband has been invited to take part in the 1500m at the Diamond League," she explained. "When we got married my dad gave him a 'Jimmy' hat so I'm trying to convince him to wear it when he's racing in Glasgow. I'm hoping he does."

This weekend sees Reid in the able-bodied long jump competition at the British National Championships.

She goes into that off the back of jumping an impressive 5.29m last weekend at the IPC Athletics Grand Prix in Berlin, where she admits she enjoyed an eventful couple of days.

She said: "Last weekend was great for a variety of reasons. I jumped 5.29 close to my PB, but it was a real learning experience as I was there on my own without my coach.

"When I arrived in the country and got on the train, I wasn't sure where I was going as things aren't always a simple as Google maps make them seem, so I ended up taking directions from a bachelor party.

"They said they knew where I was going so said, 'just follow us'. Two hours later I got there, although it only took me 20 minutes to do the return journey!"
