SCOTS boxing legend Ricky Burns is gearing up for a sensational all-Celtic clash with Welsh former world champion Lee Selby.

The pair are set to meet at the Hydro in Glasgow on September 7 after Burns’ proposed WBA eliminator fight with Venezuelan Jorge Linares fell through.

Scotland’s only three-weight world champion will now turn his attention instead to Selby. The former featherweight world champion stepped up two divisions for his first lightweight contest earlier this year against Omar Douglas after losing his IBF belt to Josh Warrington last year.

It will mean an emotional homecoming for Burns who hasn’t fought in Glasgow since losing his world super-lightweight bout with Julius Indongo back in April 2017.

Selby has lost just twice in 29 professional fights and hadn’t been beaten for eight years before losing his world title strap to Warrington. The 32 year-old from Barry will provide tough opposition for Burns who will be hoping his greater experience at this weight and the backing of a noisy home crowd will see him through.

At 36 years old, time is running out for the Scot to return to world level but a victory over an-ever dangerous Selby should open the door for further big contests.
