ANDY Murray has fallen to number 16 in the ATP Tour rankings, his lowest placing for nine years.
The two-time Wimbledon champion has suffered with a hip injury throughout 2017 and missed the final grand slam of the year, the US Open.
It is the first time in three years Murray has dropped out of the top 10 and marks his lowest ranking since May 2008 when he was placed 18th.
The 30-year-old finished last year as world number one but has not competed since exiting Wimbledon in July.
He was beaten by Mischa Zverev in the fourth round of the Australian Open before losing to Stan Wawrinka in the French Open semi-finals and going down in five sets to Sam Querrey at the All England Club while nursing a hip problem.
However, Murray will return to action when he faces world number two Roger Federer in a charity match in Glasgow tomorrow.
Spaniard Rafael Nadal will finish the year as number one after clinching both the French and US Open titles.
