Ojie Edoburun ensured a successful start to Saturday's European Indoor Athletics Championships action in Glasgow for Great Britain as he booked his place in the men's 60 metre semi-finals.

The former European Junior champion eased through in 6.67 seconds as he held off Germany's Kevin Kranz for victory.

Reigning 60m champion Richard Kilty also progressed to Saturday evening's semi-finals by finishing second in his heat behind Zikos Konstadinos of Greece.

Kilty was not initially selected to defend the title he won in both Prague and Belgrade but was handed an 11th-hour invite by organisers European Athletics.

He will hope to seize gold again after finishing in a time of 6.68secs - 0.02secs behind Konstadinos.
Britain's Asha Philip is through to the women's 60m semi-finals after a comfortable heat victory.

She beat Slovenia's Maja Mihalinec in a time of 7.23secs.
Team-mate Rachel Miller also progressed after triumphing in her race in a time of 7.24secs, while Kristal Awuah joined her compatriots after finishing second to Dutch Olympic silver medallist Dafne Schippers.

Andy Pozzi shook off a thigh injury to claim his place in the men's 60m hurdles semi-finals.

The defending European and World Indoor champion feared he might have to miss out after suffering a quad strain just before Christmas but showed no ill-effect as he came through his heat second behind Spain's Orlando Ortega.

Kilty said after his heat: "I didn't push the whole way through and I didn't start so great, so a bit of a sloppy race but I just wanted to get through nice and easy and then see what comes from the semi-final.

"It's the first major championships I've done for a while, so it's a relief to be here and get things underway.

"I sat in the blocks and obviously didn't get the best start after that, but I won't be doing that in the semi-final or final. Now - I eat, sleep and relax really - that's it."
