DENIS LAW was one of the greatest goalscorers Scotland has ever produced and played most of his club career with Manchester United.

He also played for Huddersfield Town, Manchester City (twice) and with Torino in Italy...

ROBERT (Govan) Do you have any information on Denis Law's first game and first goal for Scotland?

Denis made his debut at Ninian Park against Wales on October 18, 1958. His first game was also the occasion of his first goal.

The game finished 3-0 to Scotland with Law netting the second in the 70th minute. Graham Leggat and Bobby Collins scored the other two goals.

This match was also the first for Matt Busby as Scotland manager and Dave MacKay was the new Scotland captain.

BOB (East Kilbride) – My uncle remembers his team Dumbarton almost beating Celtic in the mid 1970's. Can you help with the details?

The game he is probably thinking of was a cracking League Cup tie at Boghead in August 1976.

In front of 12,000 fans Celtic went in at half-time 3-1 down. Two goals from John Bourke and another from Ian Wallace were countered by a Paul Wilson goal.

The second half saw Celtic pummel the stout Dumbarton defence. Roddy McDonald pulled a goal back for Celtic.

John Bourke nearly got his hat-trick when he hit the bar, but in the closing minutes Danny McGrain crossed for Johnny Doyle to score and give Celtic a deserved 3-3 draw.

SGW (Largs) Could you provide some information on a good friend of mine, John Little, of Rangers? He was a full-back in the Fifties who came from Millport.

Johnny Little was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, but came to live in Scotland from a young age.

In his early football career, playing at full-back, he played for Queen's Park as an amateur from season 1948/49 to season 1950/51 turning professional with Rangers FC from July 1951 until the end of the season 1961/62, when he joined Greenock Morton for a further two seasons.

With Rangers he won the League Championship in 1953 and 1956, Scottish Cup in 1953 and 1960.

He won one full Scotland cap against Sweden in 1953 and two Scottish League caps against the Irish League in 1954 and the Football League in 1960.

DEREK (Jackton) – Can you tell me how many league goals Hearts scored when they won the Scottish League in season 1957/58?

Hearts scored an amazing 132 goals in 34 games that winning season. An average of almost four goals a game.

The League's top goal-scorers that season were both Hearts players, Jimmy Murray and Jimmy Wardhaugh, each with 28 goals.
