SIR Alex Ferguson has raised £400,000 for the National Health Service as a thank you for the care he received during his brain surgery scare last year.
The Scottish football legend put on a star-studded event in Manchester on Friday evening and handed over all the proceeds to the NHS.
Ferguson had emergency treatment on a brain haemorrhage last May and spent several days in intensive care at Salford Royal Hospital.
The 77-year-old expressed his gratitude to the staff for his care and he has now donated a significant six-figure sum after a fund-raising night that was hosted by actor James Nesbitt.
Punters dug deep for the main auction to have dinner with Ferguson and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp before one music fan topped up the tally at the end of the evening.
A source close to Sir Alex said: “Alex was in great form all night and had his guests in stitches with his stories.
“It raised a lot of money but Alex was determined that all of it should go to the NHS.
“He’s always been a great supporter of them and that’s become even more the case since his health issues last year.
“One guest was a big Proclaimers fan and after they’d done a musical turn he told Sir Alex he’d pay £5000 to get his picture taken with the brothers.
“Fergie made sure Craig and Charlie were made available and the NHS benefited.”
