RANGERS struggled for years to find a strike partnership as potent as the one Mark Hateley and Ally McCoist formed during the nine-in-a-row era.

It could be argued the only duo who came anywhere close to matching them were Kris Boyd and Kenny Miller.

But there are two players just now who could terrorise opposition defences - Jon Daly and Nicky Clark. Daly, big and physical, and Clark, agile and fast, complement each other perfectly in attack.

They give rival teams a real headache whenever they play together and they clicked in the 4-3 win over Brechin. Clark, in particular, played a vital role in the comeback.

Many Rangers fans have been crying out for their team to play two up front since they dropped down to the lower reaches of Scottish football.

It would certainly be worth giving Clark several games up front in tandem with Daly to see what they are capable of.

NOT YET

Says ALISON McCONNELL

NICKY CLARK has had to be patient in waiting for his chance to shine, but although he grabbed the headlines with the goal that capped a thrilling comeback, he cannot expect to walk straight into the team.

Rangers have not been shy when it comes to finding goals this season.

Clark's involvement when he came into the fray at Brechin was impressive and it is important for Ally McCoist to have players on the bench he can trust to come on and make a difference.

The former Queen of the South forward will be itching for his chance to show he can hold on to the jersey and bang in the goals, but there are still a few in front of him who have been doing just that.

However, if he continues to keep his head down and take his chance when it comes, then he won't be too far away from making his way into the team. The next challenge lies in staying there.
