STEVEN GERRARD doesn’t expect Rangers to do much business during the January transfer window but insists the search for reinforcements will never stop at Ibrox.

In an exclusive interview with SportTimes this week, Director of Football Mark Allen expressed his confidence that the Light Blues board would continue to financially back the rebuilding blueprint that he and boss Gerrard have in place.

The Liverpool legend overhauled his squad in the summer as 15 players arrived at Ibrox ahead of the new campaign in the Premiership and Europa League.

But Gerrard isn’t eyeing wholesale changes during January as he gears up for a crucial run of fixtures in the coming weeks.

He said: “I saw Mark’s interview and I agree with what he says about a recruitment process continuing even when the window is shut.

“He’s looking for players to strengthen a position or area in the team where we may be light or short. We never stop looking to improve.

“In terms of January I don’t envisage many signings. It’s difficult to say if it will be one or two, we’ll have to wait and see, but we are looking.

“If that player becomes available in January then I will ask the board to support me on it.”

Rangers spent several million pounds on deals for the likes of Nikola Katic, Borna Barisic and Eros Grezda during the close season as Gerrard was significantly backed in the transfer market.

Chairman Dave King will lead the Light Blues’ Annual General Meeting in Glasgow on Tuesday and Gerrard is looking forward to catching up with the Ibrox chief.

He said: “I always sit down with him whether there is an AGM or not. Every time he is over, we have a dinner together.

“We’ll do that again in the next couple of days, then go into the AGM together and face whatever is thrown at us.

“The timing is good for a couple of reasons. The chairman hasn’t been over for a while, so we can talk about what’s happened in the games just played.

“We are also coming up to a window and to an AGM, so there will be a lot on the agenda to talk about and I’m really looking forward to the meal.

“Every time he has been over, we have had a good couple of hours together and spoken about the team and the squad.”

King will face questions from shareholders over the £14.3million loss that RIFC plc posted for the last financial year when he takes to the stage next week.

And Gerrard is also preparing to address supporters for the first time since he was appointed manager on a four-year deal in June.

He said: “I’d like to ask of all of you what they are like. I have never been to one so I’m sure if I’m looking forward to it or dreading it.

“If we get a nice win tomorrow and are sitting nice in the table, I’m really looking forward to it.

“But, look, I’m an open book. I’m honest and will sit on any table and answer any question as honestly as I can. I’ll go in with my eyes wide open.

“I might love it, I might hate it, I don’t know. I’ll come back to it next week.”
